Sunday, June 30th - Arrival in Sydney

We made it! 15.5 hours on a plane is a very long time, but it really wasn't that bad. We were all able to get some sleep. Arriving at 8:15AM local time it has felt like we had a nights sleep and ready to start the day. We had a fabulous day! So nice to see Diane and David again, they met us at the Woolloomooloo Hotel and Apartments, where we will be staying while in Sydney.

First stop today was Circular Quay. This area right on the water is a great spot to view both the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House. We'll come back to this area sometime during our stay to take the ferry to Manly Island.

From here it was a nice walk over to The Rocks Market, this is a weekend market where you'll find many outdoor stalls, quaint shops and lots of apartment blocks. A very popular and expensive area to live in Sydney. Many years ago when the bridge was being built this was an area that was origianlly built for convict workers and soldiers to live to keep them in line. The cobble stone streets and lanes reminded me a little bit of Gastown, Ian says Old Montreal.

Walking around we have been seeing so many different birds. It's been fun to see some Cockatoos, and we were able to see a couple of lorikeets. Very colourful!

After the boys enjoyed a macaroon (Cole salted caramel & Kylar dark chocolate) we walked over to the Sydney Opera House. Was so amazing to actually be there. Have seen it many times on tv and pictures; it doesn't dissappoint in person. Truly a very unique and recognizable structure.

A tradition to have picture taken on the stairs outside the Opera House. As we're walking around today I can't shake the thought...WE ARE IN SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA!

On this side of the harbour, in Circular Quay it is also a great place to get a view of the Harbour Bridge. And another spot for a family picture.

A nice walk through the Botanical Gardens on the way back to our Hotel. Looking forward to some sun tomorrow and another day of exploring some sights in Sydney!
